Frequently Asked Questions

How am I protected from tracking?

Anon Phone safeguards your privacy by addressing the three main layers of mobile tracking.

These layers include telecom surveillance of calls and texts, data collection by operating systems, and tracking within the apps you use.

To ensure your security, Anon Phone relies on internet-based communications, utilizes open-source operating systems free from corporate ties, and supports free, tracker-free apps built on open-source principles.

Will my favorite app work on the phone?

Yes, you can still use your favorite apps on Anon Phones. However, apps that depend heavily on big tech services like Google Services may not function seamlessly out of the box. This includes popular apps such as Uber™, Lyft™, Airbnb™, and various banking apps.

To address this, you can isolate these apps and Google Services in a secure sandbox, keeping your phone's remaining data protected essentially creating a "two phones in one" experience. Alternatively, you can access the services you need directly through their websites.

Where do I get applications?

You can download applications for your phone through alternative open-source app stores, which you can also preview on your current Android device:

  • F-Droid: A repository of free and open-source applications that do not rely on Google Services.
  • Aurora Store: An anonymized gateway to the Google Play Store, offering proprietary apps that may or may not depend on Google Play Services.

How long will the phones be supported?

Each device has a unique support period determined by Google’s official schedule.

During this period, both Google and the developers of the alternative operating system provide updates for your phone. Google delivers updates for drivers, firmware, and the bootloader, along with security updates for the operating system, which are then implemented by the alternative OS developers.

Once Google’s official support ends, updates will continue to be provided by the developers of the alternative operating system. These updates cover all open-source components, including the kernel and operating system.

Even after the official support period ends, your de-Googled phone will remain fully functional.
